| DEB AND CHRIS GET MARRIED TODAY.

| Cannot complain. Summer is treating me pretty well.

| Today I went for a long bike ride, hitting the trails near Hines Drive that move along the snaking path of the Rouge River. I leaned low over my bike and swooped over hills and broken-down paths, staying ever under the shade of oaks and bushy cottonwood trees. Passing a crowded custard shop, I nudged through lines of families jostling for sundaes, then slid easily back into the lush green of a Michigan forest.
It is such a strange place, along Hines Drive. Row after row of parks, seemingly endless, are lined by a busy roadway. You wonder how anyone could--even for a moment--feel removed from the hustling, jabbering world of life. And yet I stayed watching the slow moment of water over rocks for half an hour, my hand lazy as it skimmed the water, my mind reaching out past the softness of the late afternoon sun towards Charleston, towards Vienna.

| Today I am eating Honey Nut Cheerios. Tomorrow I graduate.

| THE GOOD: The Education Department realized how foolish they
were, and my friend is back where she deserves! Amazing. Seriously amazing.
That news made my day.
THE BAD: Yesterday at lunch, my
father mentioned that he was taking a stress test. Apparently two years
ago a doctor told him he had blockage in his right ventricle--a big
problem, since problems to that can cause strokes without really any
notice. Um. BAD.
The sole reason I'm not freaking out is because
I've sort of guessed that something like this happened. Over the past
few years, he's changed his diet a bit and made quiet mentions of
"medicination." Since he's taken charge of this, I'm not terribly
worried. He took the stress test to see if he can start running again,
which would hopefully help to lower cholesterol and keep him fit. He
doesn't mess around with his health. I guess that's consolation.
THE GREAT:
Going to Chicago tomorrow until Sunday, to visit Loyola. If any of you
are still wondering what my "HOORAY!" was about, it was because Loyola
offered me a full tuition scholarship to their PhD program and a big,
fat assistantship. Really really nice offer. Going to be hard to turn
down, honestly. I think the only way that'll happen is if Boston
College ends up pulling through, because I would receive a similar
package. Regardless, I'm excited to visit Chicago and see Lindsay
again!
One more GREAT thing: visiting John next week Wednesday. Just have to get over my crazy phobia of planes. | | |
